AboveNet expands Points of Presence for enhanced Ethernet & IP services with Interxion
central London POP reduces networking costs and lowers latency for customers

AboveNet, a leading provider of high bandwidth connectivity for business and carriers has joined up with Interxion, a leading pan-European carrier-neutral data centre provider, to create a Point of Presence for its enhanced metro Ethernet, IP transit and international VPN services at its London City data centre.

Located in the heart of the City of London, the Interxion datacentre is ideally located to provide AboveNet’s City-based financial services customers who want to connect to London’s top liquidity markets with a close proximity connection. By reducing the distance data has to travel, AboveNet can offer lower latency and reduced networking costs to companies connecting in London and extend this worldwide to locations such as New York, Chicago, Frankfurt and Paris.

AboveNet’s legacy free Ethernet infrastructure and IP backbone coupled with its metropolitan fibre networks support a truly valuable set of service offerings. Customers are able to consolidate or scale inter-site connectivity whilst realising cost savings, simplifying network topologies at the same time as increasing performance and lowering latency. When quality Internet connectivity is also added AboveNet is providing Interxion customers the option to work with a connectivity provider capable of delivering real business benefits.

“We are pleased that AboveNet has joined the Interxion Financial Hub, the community of exchanges, MTFs, buy-side & sell-side firms, and ISVs & VARs within our London data centre.” said Anthony Foy, Group Managing Director at Interxion UK. “As one of the City’s only data centre providers to be in close proximity to five of the largest liquidity markets we are well positioned to meet current and future collocation requirements of capital market participants.”

“This investment in our network is good news for organisations looking for lower latency, cost effective and more secure connectivity for bandwidth-heavy applications,” said John Donaldson, managing director at AboveNet UK. “The relationship with Interxion is vital to our growth strategy, putting us ahead of the curve on service provision and providing our customers with essential competitive advantage.”

Interxion’s high-specification data centre provides an excellent location for power, services, cooling and security for a Point of Presence.  AboveNet has deployed a Juniper MX960 router as part of its ongoing network up-grade to offer customers up to 10Gbit Ethernet ports supporting enhanced functionality for both its metro and international services.
