Press Release
Tag brings its network up to speed with AboveNet LONDON, 28 March, 2007 – AboveNet Communications UK Ltd., a leading provider of fibre connectivity solutions for businesses and carriers and a subsidiary of AboveNet Inc., today announced the completion of a dedicated fibre network in London for international design and production agency, Tag. As a leading production and design specialist, Tag creates and delivers over 10,000 unique pre-media files each month, resulting in a vast amount of content distributed between the various Tag entities and customer sites on a daily basis. To further leverage its position in the media industry and support its customers' needs, Tag required transportation of these bandwidth-intensive files to be both instantaneous and completely secure. To support these requirements, AboveNet has deployed a dedicated, highly resilient dark fibre network connecting Tag's six locations in London. In addition to its fibre network, Tag upgraded to AboveNet's Tier-1 IP Transit, enabling Trans-Atlantic connectivity via Internet VPN. With this network design, Tag now has one of the most extensive footprints for transporting high bandwidth media content in and among many of the most media-centric cities in the world. "Tag's choice in AboveNet further validates our strengths in the media industry," said John Dowbiggin, managing director of AboveNet Communications UK Ltd. "With the AboveNet network designed to meet the high bandwidth requirements of this industry, our connectivity solutions have proved a vital, strategic investment for Tag. With more and more media specialists realising the benefits that AboveNet brings, I am confident of our role as a key player in the future of networking development within the media sector." Tag's lease of AboveNet's scalable and resilient dark fibre renders Tag the exclusive user with no other external traffic able to access its private network, ensuring Tag's requirement for complete security. By choosing to operate and manage its own fibre network, Tag has the ability to enable a pair of AboveNet fibres to be lit to over 500Gbps, in turn providing the necessary scalability to increase bandwidth size as its business needs grow. To meet Tag's requirement for high speed internet connectivity, Tag upgraded from its previous low bandwidth, Tier-2 providers to AboveNet's Tier-1 IP Transit. Tag now experiences rapid internet connectivity through AboveNet's rich peering fabric which allows for instant access and delivery of media files - resulting in shorter lead times for customer projects. "AboveNet is one of the very few communication companies that can provide high quality dark fibre at cost effective prices," said Tag's IT director, Darren Mills. "By leasing dark fibre from AboveNet, we have been able to increase our bandwidth significantly among our WAN's which has enabled us to provide high bandwidth traffic like video streaming where we never thought possible." As one of the most innovative media groups today, Tag is committed to staying ahead of the developing media industry and continues to invest in the latest technology to ensure its infrastructure continues to support all of its clients' needs. As such, AboveNet's high bandwidth, resilient network solution has provided Tag a cohesive network design that supports all of its current mission critical requirements whilst allowing for future scalability needs.
