Press ReleaseAboveNet, Inc. to Add Fiber Connectivity into New Equinix Data Center in ChicagoNEW YORK, June 27 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- AboveNet, Inc., a provider of fiber based connectivity solutions for businesses and carriers, today announced that it will be adding fiber connectivity to Equinix's newest Internet Business Exchange(TM) (IBX(R)) data center, which is currently under construction near the Chicago O'Hare Airport. The move by AboveNet to add fiber connectivity into the new Equinix center will enable AboveNet to leverage its key optical network assets to provide network connectivity to Equinix customers in and around the Chicago metroplex. To support disaster recovery requirements and regulations, many companies are looking for data centers located outside of the central business district to serve as their disaster recovery sites to replicate mission critical applications and data. The addition of the new Equinix center to AboveNet's network will provide Equinix customers with an additional private fiber based connectivity solution. AboveNet's private optical network will be able to support the most sophisticated or basic disaster recovery plans for the companies that are expected to deploy their critical IT operations to Equinix's new Internet hub. In addition, AboveNet's solution will enable companies to reduce their overall network operating costs and provide greater scalability and flexibility for future growth than many traditional service provider connectivity solutions.
