AboveNet Installs 1,000th Private Customer Optical Network Node

Milestone reached by industry leader in high bandwidth metro area networks

NEW YORK, July 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- AboveNet Communications, Inc., a leading provider of fiber optic connectivity solutions, announced today that it has installed its 1,000th network node, now part of the company's support for hundreds of private customer optical networks. These nodes support a broad spectrum of protocols such as packet based protocols like high-bandwidth Ethernet, digital video transmission, storage and mainframe specific protocols such as Fibre Channel/ Escon/ Ficon, and traditional SONET/SDH transmission. This 1,000 node milestone is a significant vote of confidence from its customers for the world class provider of private wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) solutions.
